Using Videos with Your Web Development

Posted on July 28th, 2011 by Jason  |  No Comments »

Using videos in web development is a technique that is quickly gaining momentum. You too can get in on this with great ease even if you know very little about technology.

These days it is easy to implement videos into your web development both as you build your website and even after it has been built. This is thanks to many video hosting services such as YouTube that make implementing your videos as easy as cutting and copying some code into your website.

There are a number of advantages to using videos in your web development. To start with, you can ensure that you are constantly having fresh content added to your website which will help you when it comes time to being ranked by the search engines.

Additionally, we live in a world where many people prefer to watch versus read. So, if your website contains different videos for people to watch, you may be able to keep their attention longer. The longer the stay on your website, the more likely they are to buy your services or products.

Videos are easy to create too. All you need to do is use your video camera, create a short video, upload it to a video hosting service, and then cut and copy the code to your website. Many cell phones and cameras even offer you the ability to create short videos that can be used.

When creating your videos, be sure you are creating something that will offer value to the viewer. ‘How to’ videos work great and the more informed the videos are, the more people will watch them.

All and all, you are looking at some welcomed exposure when you use videos in your web development. Even if the views are coming from a video hosting site, it will all end up leading potential customers to you and your services.

What Kind of Website Should You Create – Go With Your Passion

It seems that everyone these days has their own website and you may want one as well, but you may also be stuck trying to figure out what kind of website you should create. Though it may be easy to build your own website these days, thanks to the many website builders that are available, the real tough choice may come in the actual choosing of a website type.

Now, you may have your own business and if you do then it is fairly obvious that you should create a website for your business. However, you may just be one of the millions who want to have their own website and not know what you want it to be about, so in this case what do you do?

You can always start a website that is centered around your passions. Do you like sports? Do you like news? Whatever it is that you are passionate about, you can always build your website around that. This may lead you to wonder why you would do so.

Once your website is built, you will find that more and more visitors begin to find your website. Once they do, you can have products offered at your website that the visitors can buy. No, you don’t have to actually have your own products as you can become an affiliate for other companies that have products relating to the theme of your website and earn a commission if anything is sold.

For example, say your website is about sports. You might then become an affiliate to an online golf store. If a visitor clicks on your affiliate advertisement and then goes and buys something from that online golf store, you make a little bit of money. It really is that easy as, after all, you did little more than create a website centered on your passion.

Is Free Web Hosting Good Web Hosting?

Posted on July 13th, 2011 by Jason  |  No Comments »

The saying goes that the best things in life a free, but does that apply to web hosting as well? Really it all depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish with your website.

Free web hosting is great, but it is only great to a certain extent. One of the main drawbacks that come with free web hosting is limitations. Typically, a free web hosting service will only allow you to have a certain amount of web pages hosted with them at a given time. This may be okay for you if you have a personal website where you don’t care about making any money with it, but it is not ideal if your website is centered on your business where you do want to make money with it and you will need to have several pages.

Another drawback is that you typically can’t move your website to another host. This is due to the free web hosting company allowing you to create a free website and then have it hosted. So, you can’t start free and then add to it later by moving it to another web hosting company. You may be able to pay the free web hosting company to ‘expand’ your services, but this will typically result in charges that are more than if you just go with a pay web hosting service in the first place.

Worst of all, many free web hosting services will require you to have advertisements on your website. This means you will have to ‘sell’ whatever it is that the web hosting company feels like putting on your website.

So, free is good, but with web hosting, it may not be your particular ‘cup of free.’ If you plan on having a website of any substance either now or in the future, then you are probably better off finding a web hosting company that is flexible and will have the ability to grow with you as your needs dictate.

Paying for Web Development

Web development can be a tricky thing to do, especially if you want to have the kind of website that will change on a daily or even hourly basis. In this case, you may want to see about paying for web development and enlisting the help of a professional.

Paying for web development used to mean that you had to go to a professional who knew how to speak the computer language of ‘code’ and have them charge you by the hour. The charge was normally not very affordable and so, many would be dissuaded.

However, those days are gone as you can now find many services that will still charge by the hour for your web development, but they won’t charge nearly what they used to. In fact, you will even find that many of the biggest names in web hosting, such as GoDaddy.com, will have web developers on staff and ready to go should you need them.

By working with one of these discount web developers you can easily and affordably take your offline visions and make them an online reality. However, you do need to know that it will represent a cost and although it may not be as much as it once was, it is still a cost. So, you have to weigh out your options, see how involved your website really will be, and go from there.

In the end it is all about having a website that can not only capture the attention of the visitor, but also prompt them to do what you want them to do. While some websites can be designed yourself and be changed only once in awhile, other websites will require professional web development so you can have it change as little, or as much, as you need it to on a daily basis.
