While this may sound somewhat involved, the process was rather straightforward. Each web host that was rated by one of the hosting review sites was given a score for each time it received a vote of one through ten with a web host review company. The score was higher if it appeared on more of the lists and the score was higher if it received a higher ranking on the lists. From there it was simply a matter of tallying the resulting scores from each web host to determine a final top ten list based on all the other top ten lists.

While there were in fact 20 web host review sites that were surveyed, interestingly enough there was no one web host service that received votes from all 20 services. The highest amount of ratings received was 17 and even with that many ratings that particular web host only landed at position two for the overall list. This is mainly due to the fact that the web host at position number one received more second and third place votes and thus warranted a higher score when the algorithm was applied.

What makes this list so interesting is the fact that what may look to be number one from the outside looking in is far from the top spot. Because each web host received credit for any position that was one through ten that meant that the web host that received the most first place votes with five finished third on the list. Why? Because they simply didn’t get enough votes in the lower rankings. While they did manage to rack up 50 points for their first place votes, they only scored a 95 overall and that really paled in comparison to the number one score of 113.

In the end what is left is a true list of top ten web hosting services as voted on by the top twenty web hosting review sites. This list represents the most unbiased way to compile the top web hosts as it is not put together on the word of just one, but rather twenty. Best of all the list contains no web hosting services that are only on the list because they paid to be there.
